Age +1

So I turned 37 today.

Don't feel any older.

Went out for a late lunch with the wife.

Got some Funko Pops for gifts from the wife.

Daughter made me a cake. Lemon cake with lemon frosting.

Bought myself a copy of the Legend of Zelda Art and Artifacts book and a new video card (to hopefully get my main pc back up and running).

Also the last day of my vacation.

All in all a good day.

Back to the grind tomorrow.

31 Days of Pumpkin - Pumpkin Cheesecake Ice Cream

Here we go folks the last treat.

Ben & Jerry's Pumpkin Cheesecake ice cream.

This is one I've been eating the past few years. Love this stuff to death because not only does it taste great but it's not full of nuts, chips, fudge, and what all else goes in most flavors of Ben & Jerry's. It's just pumpkin cheesecake ice cream with graham cracker bits.

I'm lactose intolerant so I have to eat it in small portions bit it worth every bite.

Hands down my most favorite treat of the series.

So that's all people. 31 pumpkin treats to enjoy in the Fall. Considering I've covered so many now I doubt I'll be able to do 31 treats every so how year without repeating so I'll likely do something different next year.

Take it easy!!!

31 Days of Pumpkin - Pumpkin Spice Special K

Special K is one of my favorite cereals. Pumpkin Spice is one of my favorite seasonings. Putting them together?

Magic.

I picked these up a few days ago and have been looking forward to trying them and I was pleased.

Special K is a pretty tough cereal so it has more resistance to going soggy than the pumpkin spice life I talked about previously.

The spices were a good mix and went really well with the faint hint of sweetness that Special K has.

So far I have only seen these at Wal-Mart and only in the last week or two. I'm hoping a lot of them make it to the clearance isle.

Here we are folks one more to go. What pumpkin spice treat will I end things with?

Come back tomorrow to find out!

31 Days of Pumpkin - Pumpkin Spice Bread

Simply put the best French Toast I ever made.

Pepperidge Farm has a constant line of flavored breads like cinnamon and strawberry buy they do a few seasonal ones as well namely this pumpkin spice one.

From what I can tell they make it by rolling a layer of pumpkin spice in with the dough making a swirl pattern in the finished bread.

I made a batch of French Toast with it. All I needed was the egg and milk for the batter since the bread already had flavor.

Gonna need to pick up some more of these.

31 Days of Pumpkin - Pumpkin Spice Hot Chocolate

My apologies for not actually getting this in on time. I spent the day helping my wife sell her perler bead art at an Extra Life gaming event and by the time we got home I was so beat it wasn't until today I realized I forgot to post.

And it doesnt help that the video card in my desktop died a few days ago so I'm going these from my phone. But on with it.

The picture you see above is pumpkin spice hot chocolate by Sillycow Farms.

First I've seen this before so I just had to try it.

The key difference is unlike most hot chocolates this one doesnt have any powder milk therefore you mist use milk instead of water for this.

It's a good solid drink. Using fresh milk gives it that nice creaminess you expect from hot chocolate.

I especially enjoyed that it wasn't too sweet given what I've been eating all month.

The only issue is the price. That small glass bottle of hot chocolate mix costs $6.

You could probably get more for your money if you made a custom mix of cocoa powder, sugar, and pumpkin spice.

It tastes good but due to the price I think I will try to make my own mix next time.

31 Days of Pumpkin - Pumpkin Bars (Betty Crocker mix)

(This is a picture I got from the net because I forgot to get a one of the actual bag I used. This picture is what it looked like a previous year.)

You usually cant go wrong with Betty Crocker brand mixes and you definitely can't go wrong with their Pumpkin Bar mix.

The only ingredients you need are one eggs and one stick of butter (melted).

Mix it all up, put it in a greased pan, bake at 325 for about 27min.

Really good and simple to make. And they go well with ice cream.

My wife even ate some.

Just a few more treats to go.

31 Days of Pumpkin - Pumpkin Spice Sweet Potato Chips

So I was out shopping for dinner tonight and came across these.

Sweet potato chips with pumpkin spice flavor.

Not bad but not really amazing. Thing is I grew up where sweet potato pie and pumpkin pie were pretty common and honestly I can barely tell the difference between the 2 because they both basically use the same spices.

I would say if you already like sweet potato fries and chips you will like this but if you don't care for them you can pass this by.

31 Days of Pumpkin - Pumpkin Egg Nog (Hood brand)

Okay I know we are nowhere near Christmas but I couldn't pass a chance at pumpkin egg nog.

But I kinda wish I had.

It's not even that it tasted bad. It just wasn't notable. Despite the brownish orange tint to it there really wasn't much pumpkin flavor to it. It's not quite bland but it just doesnt really taste that different from standard egg nog.

It's just not that special. Definitely not special enough to risk my lactose intolerance.

31 Days of Pumpkin - Pumpkin Bread (Publix)

I know I've done Wal-Mart's pumpkin bread already but I figure since its likely no two sources make it the same why not try another. This time I went with the Publix take on it.

And frankly Wal-Mart needs to step up its game

The Publix version isnt as dry (but still a little dry) and is actually much more flavorful.

Simply put the Wal-Mart version kinda tasted cheap which is likely to be expected considering the price of many of their in hour products.

You're still better off making your own pumpkin bread but if that is not an option and you have a choice between Publix or Wal-Mart choose Publix.

31 Days of Pumpkin - Pumpkin Spice Fudge Stripes

I don't think there was any doubt that the Keebler Elves were going to let the pumpkin spice hype train pass them by.

Not sure exactly how long they have been doing these cookies but I'm wishing I had found them sooner.

At quick glance I was worried that these were going to have chocolate on them since they called Fudge Stripes but thankfully they went with a white frosting on top. I think i can faintly taste cream cheese on it but that might be in my head.

The cookie itself is up to the usual Keebler standards so if you already like them you'll be fine but if you already don't like them then you likely won't get your mind changed here. What I did find interesting is that the spice isn't as strong as I've tasted in other treats. But it works. It works damn well.

This one is a buy.

So we are now getting into the home stretch of the series. Only 8 more treats to go.

Any ideas or suggestions of things to try?

31 Days of Pumpkin - Pumpkin Spice Granola Bar

Now for something not quite so unhealthy.

Look pumpkin spice isn't going anywhere anytime soon so I suppose everyone is just trying to get in on the action while they can. So here is Nature Valley throwing its hat in the ring.

I'm glad they chose a crunchy bar instead of a soft and chewy bar because there are already a lot of soft cookie like treats in the pumpkin spice world (and I will have one coming up in a few days).

As you chew it up it seems to release more spice but not too much spice. The spice is present but its not overpowering like a cheap candle or something. The bar is not too sweet (which I've run into a few times already in this series)

I bet these would go great crushed up in yogurt.

These are definitely a keeper so go out and get some before the season is over.

31 Days of Pumpkin - Pumpkin Spice Cake Roll

What we have here is the Pumpkin Spice Cake Roll from Fresh Market. Like most big chain stores this place has its own in house bakery. And let me tell you this thing was worth every penny.

I'm not sure what the it is but they have sprinkled something over the top of it. Not only is the cake soft and tasty but I could actually taste the butter in the cream cheese filling. Funny thing is I walked right past this while looking for treats and my daughter actually found it. This is pretty out of character for her sense she really doesn't like pumpkin spice anything but she picked it out and even she liked it.

Yeah if you have a Fresh Market near you then swing by and pick one of these up.

31 Days of Pumpkin - Pumpkin Spice Caramels

So now that we are getting on the home stretch Im a bit pressed to find more items to try out. So while out searching for the final snacks I came across Lovely brand Pumpkin Spice Caramels.

What a pleasant surprise!

I personally don't care for caramel that much now (used to love it when I was younger) but for some reason I'm loving these. They are sweet but not too sweet. The caramel is soft a creamy  The spice is just right so that it leaves a noticeable taste in your mouth but no so powerful it punches you in the mouth.

However they are a bit pricey at $5 for about 18 pieces.

They are a nice treat that will keep me for a while and while I would like to get more of them they are a bit pricey and will likely be out of season by the time I go looking for more.

31 Days of Pumpkin - Pumpkin Spice Wafers

Im a fan of Voortman cookies. I remember going to a Winn Dixie a few towns over that had the big containers of Vootman cookies where you can pick your own bag of them and pay by the pound. Good stuff.

These wafers however are not so good. Don't get me wrong their texture is awesomely crunchy just like other flavored wafers but these are just too sweet. Like so sweet that they don't really have much else going on for them besides being sweet as hell.

This one is going to be a pass.

31 Days of Pumpkin - Pumpkin Spice Rolls

I don't know how long Pillsbury has been doing Pumpkin Spice Rolls but I bet its been a while and I'm just coming across them now.

Have to say I'm glad I come across them.

Being a part of the Grands! products line they make a fairly large roll (in fact this pack only has 5 of them) that has the usual spices with a cream cheese topping that has more spices.

It was really good and the only real complaint I have is that the bread tasted more like a biscuit dough despite being the consistency of cinnamon roll dough. So it ended up tasting like someone rolled up biscuit dough instead of making cinnamon roll dough. But even then its still good and even my picky teenage daughter likes them.

Will have to make sure to pick up more.

31 Days of Pumpkin - Pumpkin Spice Almonds

I think I've seen these in stores before and just never picked them up so I decided to take the plunge this time. And I'm glad I did.

These things are actually pretty good. Normally I don't like anything sweet with my almonds except for an actual chocolate coating but these are okay.

Its your basic almond roasted with a coating of pumpkin pie spices and sugar. They taste good but hell they smell better than they taste. Serious you could open the can and just set it on your desk and use it for air freshener.

I may actually try crushing some of these up and doing other things with them like cookies to see how they turn out.

These are worth buying for sure.

31 Days of Pumpkin - Pumpkin Spice Puffs

Just no.

I picked these up at random just because I've never seen them before. And now I hope to never see them again.

When I saw them I figured they would be something like those peppermint puffs but when a nice pumpkin spice flavor. The puff itself isn't bad in fact it reminds me of the peppermint ones however the flavor is just terrible.

The pumpkin spice flavor is fake and artificial as hell. And after looking at the bag its clear why it tastes so awful. One of the ingredients is "artificial pumpkin flavor".

Yeah If it wasn't for the fact that I was giving a bit of a review on them I would have tossed them out already. And now that I'm done with them that is exactly what I'm gonna do.

31 Days of Pumpkin - Dark Chocolate Pumpkin Biscotti

Okay so I don't do biscotti very often. Like almost never. Just not a fan of dunking a cookie into my coffee/tea because that makes it soggy. I'd rather have a hard crunchy cookie and this one sort of disappoints.

Don't get me wrong the flavor is awesome. I obviously like pumpkin spice and you can get me to eat almost anything if you add enough dark chocolate to it. And there are even dark chocolate chips in the biscotti.

Unfortunately its not very crunchy. In fact the texture reminds me more of a once soft cookie that has gone stale. I've never heard of this brand Nonni's before so maybe they are a low end brand with not so great of quality. Thing is until I saw these this year I had never seen a dark chocolate biscotti before so I just had to try it.

They taste good enough to finish the box but I highly doubt I'll buy another.

Mashup October 15, 2017

Got Links?

Weinstein scandal prompts actors Terry Crews, James Van Der Beek to share harassment stories - All too often its pretty much just assumed that when it comes to sex crimes its only about a man doing something to a woman when that is clearly not the case. But because of that assumption (an assumption that even people who claim to be supportive of men will defend for some odd reason) many men are left silent. It's good to see men speaking up about the things that happened to them. They may never see justice but there is hope that their speaking up now may help someone else get justice later.

Sexual Victimization by Women Is More Common Than Previously Known - Considering how the prevalence of female sex offenders has been downplayed and denied for so long it doesn't surprise me that this is coming to light. But I don't think the portrait is new so much as someone went up to the attic and dug it out after years of being hidden away because someone didn't like the way it looked.

A Non-Feminist FAQ - Because apparently it's difficult for people to understand that you can support gender equality and not be a feminist. But honestly the only people I've ever see display this misunderstanding are feminists.

Stop Guilt-Tripping Boys About Their ‘Toxic Masculinity’ - Name one group that has ever improved their situation by being constantly berated over how horrible they are. And before you say, "we aren't saying masculinity itself is bad just that there are a lot of bad behaviors mixed into it" do me a favor and name some examples of non toxic masculinity.

There is no 'heat of the moment' in video games - Polygon keeps branding itself as a gaming journalism site but then they publish some baffling stuff like this. The take away isn't that "heat of the moments don't exist" its that in the heat of the moment PewDiePie chose to say something racist. He could have just called the other guy an asshole and it would have slid by no issue. Its natural to get excited and hyped up when playing a game but we are responsible for HOW we express that excitement and hype.

Insanity: Theresa May Says Internet Companies Need To Remove 'Extremist' Content Within 2 Hours - Someone doesn't understand exactly how content moderation works.

Boys Are Not Defective - "We used to say, empowering women, and now we talk about empowering men.". Men and boys could really use some empowerment. We have to move past this idea that everything would be fine we could just men and boys to do right by women and girls.

Allergan Pulls A Fast One - Major drug company Allergan transferred patent right for their drug Restasis to the St. Regis Mohawk Indian Nation. Why? Because any patents owned by the tribe are immune to inter partes view challenges (a specific type of review whose purpose is to examine any possible prior art objection to a granted patent). This is not good.

Hugh's Heartbreak Hugh Hefner’s first wife CHEATED on him - I honestly didn't know that. But I did find it sad to see Hefner getting trashed by people who haven't done anywhere near as much for human rights as he did.

I don't agree with everything she says but I do think Red Pill Black does
a fair job pointing out liberal hypocrisy.

Stay Frosty!!!

31 Days of Pumpkin - Pumpkin Spice Life Cereal

Life cereal is good. It's one that I didn't get into until I was an adult. I've especially come to like them without adding any sugar to them as the faint hint of sweetness they have on their own is plenty. And they now have a seasonal Pumpkin Spice Flavor.

This one was a nice treat. Like the standard flavors its got just that tiny bit of sweetness where you can barely tell its there. The spice is fairly strong but not too strong. And as a simple cereal is likely the closest thing to a healthy Pumpkin Spice treat that will show up in this series.

However this flavor shares the common flaw with Life cereal and that is that it can go soggy pretty quick. Its one of those cereals where if someone interrupts you while eating it you may as well toss it out because you're gonna lose it.

I have nearly finished off one box and will like get at least 2 more (most likely more than 2 if I find them on clearance around the end of the year) before the end of the season.

Definitely worth giving a try.

31 Days of Pumpkin - Pumpkin Spice Cookie Butter Dippers

This is a treat I saw in Big Lots and for $1 I figured I'd give it a try. And I wasn't disappointed.

Its a basic set of cookie sticks with a pumpkin spice flavored frosting to dip them in.

Not bad for the price but the topping was a little on the sweet side and closes in on being too sweet.

An okay snack but not one I'll be lining up to get more of.

31 Days of Pumpkin - Pumpkin Spice Blended Yogurt (Chobani)

(Disclaimer: I actually attempted to do this back in 2014 but feel off because of personal shit at the time. In light of that I am going to go back and use the entries from that time in this latest attempt. If you see this at the top it's an indicator that its a repost from 2014 and there will mostly likely be edits from the original mostly for context timing. On with the show.)

Chobani presented Pumpkin Spice Blended Yogurt for the fall season and its good.

Its a Greek yogurt so its got that bit of a tang to it to keep it from being too sweet. The spices are not too heavy.

I like this one a lot and I wouldn't mind trying this as a frozen yogurt.

31 Days of Pumpkin - Pumpkin Bread (Wal-Mart)

(Disclaimer: I actually attempted to do this back in 2014 but feel off because of personal shit at the time. If you see this at the top it's an indicator that its a repost from 2014 and there will mostly likely be edits from the original mostly for context timing. On with the show.)

Tonight we have Wal-Mart's take on pumpkin bread...and they didn't take it that well.

Honestly, it wasn't good. The bread was dry in the middle but moist on the top. The flavor was weak and there were barely any pecans in it. It was terrible.

Seriously, just don't. If you want to get your hands on some pumpkin break either find another brand or make it yourself.

31 Days of Pumpkin - Pepperidge Farm Pumpkin Cheesecake Cookies

(Disclaimer: I actually attempted to do this back in 2014 but feel off because of personal shit at the time. In light of that I am going to go back and use the entries from that time in this latest attempt. If you see this at the top it's an indicator that its a repost from 2014. On with the show.)

So Pepperidge Farm has decided to offer us a pumpkin spice cookie that has bits of cheesecake baked into it.

Very good cookie. I like how they made it a pumpkin spice cookie with cheesecake bits that way you can taste them separately instead of all melding together.

High in calories. High in sugar. High in fat. High in taste.

Definitely much better than the pumpkin spice Milano cookies they make (or maybe made because I don't know if they still do them).

If you're a fan of pumpkin spice and are a fan of Pepperidge Farm you should really do yourself a favor and get a pack of these.

Do you have any pumpkin treats/sweets/drinks recommend?

31 Days of Pumpkin - Coffeemate Pumpkin Spice Creamer

(Disclaimer: I actually attempted to do this back in 2014 but feel off because of personal shit at the time. If you see this at the top it's an indicator that its a repost from 2014 and there will mostly likely be edits from the original mostly for context timing. On with the show.)

Anyone that drinks coffee knows the brand Coffeemate and their line of creamers. You may love it, you may hate it, but you know about it.

During the fall time (and probably through most of winter) we are treated to a Pumpkin Spice flavor of the creamer.

This stuff is good. I'm already near the end of my first bottle and second one will be bought when I get paid in about 5 days. Seriously this stuff makes me want more coffee.

The spice is fairly strong so it works well with coffee.

If you are a coffee drinker you should give this one a try.

31 Days of Pumpkin - Ghirardelli Pumpkin Spice Caramel

(Disclaimer: I actually attempted to do this back in 2014 but feel off because of personal shit at the time. In light of that I am going to go back and use the entries from that time in this latest attempt. If you see this at the top it's an indicator that its a repost from 2014 and there will mostly likely be edits from the original mostly for context timing. On with the show.)

I didn't even know Ghirardelli made these until I saw them in SAMS Club. And then, what do I come home to after a really aggravating day at work? A bag of these (along with basic milk chocolate caramels and another new one called cinnamon crunch) courtesy of my wife.

Like the basic milk chocolate caramel the pumpkin spice caramel is simply caramel with a pumpkin spice flavor. And like the basic milk chocolate caramel, this one is good too.

The chocolate is smooth and the caramel melts in your mouth just right.

This is a really good piece of candy. I can see myself tearing through a bag of these before they are taken off the shelf for the year.

Do you have any pumpkin treats/sweets/drinks recommend?

31 Days of Pumpkin - Pumpkin Spice Donut (Krispy Kreme)

(Disclaimer: I actually attempted to do this back in 2014 but feel off because of personal shit at the time. In light of that I am going to go back and use the entries from that time in this latest attempt. If you see this at the top it's an indicator that its a repost from 2014 and there will mostly likely be edits from the original mostly for context timing. On with the show.)

When it comes to the basic glazed donut it doesn't get much better than Krispy Kreme. However I've always felt that their cake donuts have been lacking. Dry, heavy, overly sweet.

The pumpkin spice version of their cake donut is really not that much different. While the spices help counter the sweetness of the glaze to an extent, it's still pretty heavy, and will dry your mouth out.

And I'm really upset that this year (2017) they only made them available for a single day. Back on September 8th they sold this donut and a pumpkin spice glaze donut. They were both legitimately good and I'm really disappointed that we won't get an entire season of them.

I'm gonna have to go try the Dunkin Donuts take on this.

Do you have any pumpkin treats/sweets/drinks recommend?

31 Days of Pumpkin - Pumpkin Spice M&Ms

(Disclaimer: I actually attempted to do this back in 2014 but feel off because of personal shit at the time. In light of that I am going to go back and use the entries from that time in this latest attempt. If you see this at the top it's an indicator that its a repost from 2014 and there will mostly likely be edits from the original mostly for context timing. On with the show.)

Damn shame sweets aren't good for you.

Seriously Pumpkin Spice M&Ms are good stuff. From what I can tell instead of the usual chocolate that is inside we are treated to a pumpkin spice filling (don't worry its solid just like the chocolate). And of course the candy shell on the outside is still there.

These are probably the best pumpkin treat I've had so far. They are good but they are just rich/sweet enough to discourage you from just sitting down and killing an entire bag of them at once.

I'd give them a thumbs up.

Do you have any pumpkin treats/sweets/drinks to recommend?

31 Days of Pumpkin - Pumpkin Pie Toaster Strudel

(Disclaimer: I actually attempted to do this back in 2014 but feel off because of personal shit at the time. In light of that I am going to go back and use the entries from that time in this latest attempt. If you see this at the top it's an indicator that its a repost from 2014 and there will mostly likely be edits from the original mostly for context timing. On with the show.)

First marketed as a competitor to the the quick breakfast staple Pop Tarts, Toaster Strudels have come along way. Instead of being wrapped in foil and sitting on a shelf for several months, Pillsbury decided to go with a frozen pastry with frosting to go on top. I'm not sure when they threw their chef's hat into the seasonal battlefield but like many other treats we now have a pumpkin pie flavor of the sweet pastries to enjoy in the morning.

They are actually quite tasty. The pastry is what you would expect. However the filling is really close to the border of being too sweet. As a result you may or may not want to use the frosting packet that comes with each strudel.

I've eaten one box of these so far and they are okay. Unfortunately I don't eat Toaster Strudels very often so it's likely I won't get anymore before they disappear from the shelves.

Take it easy folks!

31 Days of Pumpkin - Iced Pumpkin Spice Latte (Starbucks)

(Disclaimer: I actually attempted to do this back in 2014 but feel off because of personal shit at the time. In light of that I am going to go back and use the entries from that time in this latest attempt. If you see this at the top it's an indicator that its a repost from 2014 and there will mostly likely be edits from the original mostly for context timing. On with the show.)

Today we have the Iced Pumpkin Spice Latte of Starbucks.

This is an annual drink that coffee shop giant has been offering for quite some time and it's one of the many pumpkin spice treats that I will certain have many times while its available.

I normally don't add whipped cream to my drinks but this is one of my exceptions.

The spices are very strong in the drink and it's not too sweet so they come out even more. The texture is nice and creamy as well. Between the flavor and creaminess you really can't drink this fast. Its meant to be sipped and savored.

My only problem with it was that even though it's iced it didn't get cold fast enough so for the first few minutes the drink was still noticeably warn.

All in all its a good drink and I encourage you to enjoy it. I'm not sure when Starbucks will stop serving these but I'm pretty sure they go at least until Thanksgiving.

Goodnight!!!

31 Days of Pumpkin - Pumpkin Spice Milano Cookies

(Disclaimer: I actually attempted to do this back in 2014 but feel off because of personal shit at the time. If you see this at the top it's an indicator that its a repost from 2014 and there will mostly likely be edits from the original mostly for context timing. On with the show.)

Okay folks you know the phrase, "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should."?

Whoever came up with that was thinking about Pumpkin Spice Milano cookies by Pepperidge Farm.

The pumpkin spice tastes so artificial that it actually clashes with the rest of the cookie. It contrasts the chocolate and cookie flavors so badly that the pumpkin spice actually spoils the fact that you're eating a Milano.

Do you know how hard it is to ruin the experience of eating a Milano cookie? I thought it couldn't be done. But low and behold they figured out how to do it.

See you folks on Monday!!

31 Days of Pumpkin - Pumpkin Spice Cookies

(Disclaimer: I actually attempted to do this back in 2014 but feel off because of personal shit at the time. In light of that I am going to go back and use the entries from that time in this latest attempt. If you see this at the top it's an indicator that its a repost from 2014 and there will mostly likely be edits from the original mostly for context timing. On with the show.)

So tonight's treat is the pumpkin spice cookie. This particular cookie hails from Harris Teeter (a major grocery chain here in the South Eastern US).

There's a reason I have grown to look forward to these cookies when they come around this time of year. They are moist and fluffy in the middle but have a hard crunchy out edge. Simply put they are really damn good. And they are pretty large cookies so you really don't have to eat a lot of them to get your fill.

The spice is just right so that you taste it as you eat it but doesn't leave a strong after taste.

The pumpkin spice cookie is a staple treat so you're bound to see them in a LOT of different places during the months of October and November (don't forget Thanksgiving).

But of course this store bought cookie probably wouldn't hold a candle to a homemade cookie....

Take it easy folks.

31 Days of Pumpkin - Pumpkin Spice Oreo

(Disclaimer: I actually attempted to do this back in 2014 but feel off because of personal shit at the time. In light of that I am going to go back and use the entries from that time in this latest attempt. If you see this at the top it's an indicator that its a repost from 2014 and there will mostly likely be edits from the original mostly for context timing. On with the show.)

So it's that time of year when we get pumpkin spice everything.

I'm a fan of pumpkin spice. A big fan. In light of that (and the fact that I haven't been doing much at this blog lately) I've decided to do a bit of a project.

My plan is to blog about one pumpkin spice item everyday for the month of October. Some will be good. Some will be Bad. Some will be Ugly.

Tonight I tried a new entry into the pumpkin spice arena. The Pumpkin Spice Oreo.

Oreo has made a name for itself over the years for having a near constant stream of different variations of their classic creme sandwich cookie (even that dreadful looking fruit punch one) so this time they have decided to take a swing at pumpkin.

Honestly its kinda of meh. Not horrible but not something I can see myself going out of my way to stockpile. The filling has the usual flavor you'd expect from pumpkin spice. It wasn't too sweet but oddly I don't think it goes too well with the vanilla cookie.

All in all it's something that can serve as a break from the usual Oeroes that are around all year but I don't think you'll be craving them a for the rest of the year when they are not available.

Okay folks I'll be back tomorrow with another treat.

Why do so many people still fuck with PewDiePie?

I don't want to spend too much time on this so let's get to it. PewDiePie, one of if not the most popular YouTuber of all time has fucked up again. This time around he just up and decided to call someone a "...fucking nigger!" during a stream last week.

Here is a clip from The Tall Black Nerd Gaming channel with a copy of the clip. If you don't want to listen to all of his commentary (but I think you should) the bit in question is at about 1:00.

This is not the first time this clown has said such stuff. Hell black people are not even the first group he has made racist remarks about.

But I think what saddens me the most is that people are lining the fuck up to defend him. Even more sad I don't think its because he's a white guy. Sure they factor in a little but I honestly think more prominent reason they are defending him is because he is a pop culture icon.

I'm seeing other YouTubers actually excusing the shit. Like actually trying to tell black people that what he said was okay because whatever reason.

I'm seeing people in comment sections sincerely trying to defend his words with everything from, "You don't even know if the other player was black" to "It's all about context!" to "It's just a word. Don't let a word affect you so much!"

I'm seeing social media blow the fuck up trying to cash in on the wave of attention to get Likes and Subs but clearly don't have anything valuable to say.

And of course there was the usual flood of people that are so desperate to come up with any excuse or reason they can to justify why white people should be able to use it. I really don't understand why people want to be able to use offensive words so badly. There are dozens of words that can be applied to any possible reason they would want to use the word nigger. In fact PDP quickly followed up by calling the person on the other end an asshole. So he knows there are other words.

It's a damn mess.

Yes while he did do an apology video I'm just not entirely convinced that he will be able to follow through on doing better. I mean if he does and cleans up his act I'll be happy to accept being proven wrong but this is not at least the third time he has said or done some racist shit

While I don't think this will be the last time we will see PDP say some nasty shit (personally I think he does this periodically for the attention because he knows and fears his fading relevance and eventual obsolescence) I do really wish this would serve a wake up call to the kind shit black people put up with.

Maybe if some game developers start cutting their ties with people who say and do shit like that the streamers and icons would get it through their heads that that shit is not okay and saying and doing shit like that has real consequences.

The Charlottesville post

My apologies to anyone hoping I would have posted on this sooner but I just couldn't quite get my mind around what happened at that rally. More importantly, I refuse to be a part of this mentality that values rushing to get content out before the smoke clears on an event just to get more clicks and views (and influence perception of the event) rather than taking the time to sit down and think about what happened.

As you most likely know now, on the weekend of August 11th, a rally named "Unite The Right" was held in Charlottesville, VA.

This rally was held by a wide mix of white nationalists, right wing supporters, and those opposed to the removal of Confederate monuments around the country.

As expected counter protesters arrived and when they clashed it eventually became violent.

By the time the smoke cleared, one woman was killed when hit by a car that was speeding away from counter protesters attacking and damaging his car, a helicopter crashed into law enforcement officers, and everyone was trying to convince the public that their spin on the weekend was really what happened.

To me, I think its all a fucking mess.

Between one side saying it was Nazis trying to start the Fourth (or whatever edition I've lost count) Reich and the other acting like poor victims trying to fight off oppression its hard to get a clear look at things.

And that is what's bothering me. There are a LOT of people hurting in this country on all sides. Race relations are a major issue that must be addressed. We have government backed monuments to people who were willing the tear the country in two over the "right" to own slaves and those that hold onto them as if their reasoning to enslave people is some high idea to hold and look up to. We have people that are willing to destroy public property and even hurt others to show that such ideas should not be tolerated.

Now, save us all the trouble of trying to call me some trumped up strawman of a centrist that is mentioning violence from the Left to justify violence from the Right. The fact that there are people that are racist, say racist things, and do racist things doesn't justify recklessly tossing the label "Nazi" at everyone you don't agree with to make it okay that they get assaulted. Not wanting violence done to people who have racist opinions does not equate to supporting racism. If you think violence is the only way to stop racism then it's probably because you haven't tried anything else; but that's another story for another day.

In regards to the monuments, while we can't go back and time and decommission them with government money, I don't think they should be destroyed. At this point I think they need to be put away in museums. Destroying them will only cause resentment and really wouldn't do any good now. Its not like the Alt Right, Nazis, white nationalists, etc... are just going to fold over and change their ways just because some statues were destroyed.

People who were there to protect those monuments and those who are doing so with racist intent need to be stopped from tearing our country apart. If they get their way, they will inevitably try to do what the South failed to do in the 1860s and at this point I wouldn't put it past them to try to reinstate slavery.

The rally in Charlottesville is a symptom of the terrible state of race relations in our country and its not going to get any better with with violence.

So much insecurity over such a minor picture....

I know I'm a little late on this one (and look forward to more late thoughts on recent events including the Google Memo and the protest in Charlottesville) but its been swirling in my head for a while and just won't go away so here goes.

So recently Ashley Carman of The Verge expressed her confusion and dismay over her boyfriend liking an Instagram photo of a woman showing off her ass.

One question she asks is, "Is he so un-evolved that he can’t resist the allure of a butt pic?"

Well yeah that's a great way to have a conversation to gain understanding. Just insult the guy and I'm sure everything will change to just the way she likes it and her boyfriend will simply stop liking bikini booty pics.

So after deciding that her method of saving likes for, "...for people I know IRL and who I figure would derive joy out of the fact that I liked their photo." is so superior and not understanding why her boyfriend isn't evolved enough to do what she does she moves on to asking some colleagues about it.

She gets commentary from several of them but I think the ending of Kaitlyn's comment is a big clue.
"That said, your boyfriend liking this pic is a little weird, but mostly because he’s a boy. I don’t feel it’s too controversial for me to say that the rules of “Instagram creeping” are slightly different for me, a girl."
I think she has a good point. If a guy likes a pic of a woman on social media there is a tendency to assume absolute worst faith. And honestly this difference in rules is probably at the core of Ashley's supposed "confusion and dismay". She wants to hold him to a different standard because he's a guy but directly admitting it would be sexist and she wants to avoid that.

But I think Zainab really hits it home by admitting to what seems to be plain old fashioned jealousy.
I find it so Neanderthal-esque that men can’t help but have their fingers slip and double tap a big, almost naked butt. The entire concept of my boyfriend, or boyfriends in general, following random “fitness” girls and models they'll never meet irks me. When they throw them a like is when it reaches another level of dumb for me. Not because I feel threatened, but because it’s such a simple thing to not do when you have a beautiful girl right in front of you!
Yeah she doesn't feel threatened at all she just like to insult men for liking a pic, getting angry over it, and then going on about how its wrong to do it when there is a beautiful girl right in front of them.

Im gonna go ahead and say it.

Ashley is expressing a level of insecurity that if shown by a man talking about his girlfriend was liking pics of hit guys would be called all sorts of names and insults and would be dragged from one end of the net to the other over his "fragile masculinity" (which seems to be code for "Im going to insult you in order to cover up my own inadequacies).

Now that being said I don't want to follow that path and start dumping on her.

What I would like to do though is ask that if she has a problem with something her boyfriend is doing try expressing it in a manner that is not so insulting and condescending. A sure fire way to shut a guy out is start off calling him names and acting he is beneath you.

I hope Ashley gets to a place where she can openly talk about this with her boyfriend in a way that shows she is not just interested in tearing into him.

Proof that Americans are lying about their sexual desires- Considering how sexually repressed the vast majority of Americans are it doesn't surprise me that people lie about their desires.

'If a girl can throw a punch, she can take one': Vile comments spark outrage on police Facebook page after post about domestic violence against MEN - This is a really old one but it caught my attention because of the way that a single case of a woman killed by domestic violence was used to silence the mere acknowledgement that men are abused.

WONDER WOMAN: Why the DCEU Doesn’t Need Superman - Hint: Its because the writer doesn't like the direction Superman has taken in the DCEU so far.

We’re losing a whole generation of young men to video games - A whole generation is not being lost to video games. Its being lost to a constant bombardment of how they are bad, how they are privileged, how they hurt women, and how they must change in order to make women's lives better. Maybe if someone expressed some concern for men for our own fucking sake we might give a shit in return?

Black Officer Shoots And Kills Unarmed White Woman, Now See What Happening In America - It's all fun and games until a white woman gets hurt.

on Ghostbusters and identity - To this day I still say that Ghostbusters 2016 was a casualty of identity politics. If it wasn't for people preemptively defending it by declaring that any and all criticism of it was based in misogyny it would have at worst just flown under the radar as another mediocre attempt at making a modern version of a classic film.

Washington's biggest problem isn't gridlock or wasted dollars — it's men - Because blaming all the troubles on a single demographic is a surefire way to unite everyone....

USA Today Complains About Lack of 'Women' and 'No Lead Actors of Color' in Movie 'Dunkirk' - Wait so there is a problem with a movie about white guys trying to save white guys from other white guys that are trying to kill those white guys lacking women and actors of color?

Why It's a Bad Idea to Tell Students Words Are Violence - Trying to expand the definition of a word just in order to justify actions you want to take (namely wanting to physically attack someone for saying something you don't like) will not end well.

Dang — looks like those women-only “Wonder Woman” screenings were illegal - Oh how convenient of them to wait until more than a month after Wonder Woman's theatrical run for them to finally fess up that what they did was wrong. And then have the fucking nerve to offer a DVD as some sort of half assed non-apology apology.

Why We Can’t Have the Male Pill - Along with the science I think there are cultural reasons that delay a male pill. Because if a reliable male pill came along it would give men a degree of power in reproduction that a lot of people are simply not ready for.

A Non-Feminist FAQ - Its about a year old but still worth reading. I'll warn that its a LONG read but pretty good.

THINKING STRATEGICALLY ABOUT FREE SPEECH AND VIOLENCE - We definitely have to turn back on this. People are so wrapped up in cool memes and scathing insults to justify violence against supposed Nazis that it is slowly becoming a case people getting so preoccupied with whether or not they should that they didn't stop and think about whether or not they should.

This Is What Superheroes Would Look Like With Realistic Bodies - I agree that we should be mindful of how bodies are portrayed in fiction but at the same time I am growing cautious about the concept of "realistic" bodies. Is our desire to be accepting of all bodies just going to turn into choosing one type of body over another, which was the original problem in the first place?

6 facts about American fathers - Maybe we shouldn't be so quick to count out dads as caring and effective parents?

Women’s Blog Jezebel Throws a Tantrum Over Father’s Day - When you choose to be offended and upset all the time its no wonder you're constantly upset over innocuous things. Someone at Jezebel has some serious daddy issues.

Uber makes big changes to driver pay, adds tipping option - I don't use Uber but I would have assumed that tipping options had been there from the get go.

When Feminism Complicates a Father-Daughter Relationship - Is this what happens when you can't hide behind the dictionary to protect you from criticism about your movement?

Jay Z: For Father's Day, I'm Taking On the Exploitative Bail Industry - I've heard his recent album is really awesome but take a moment to see what else he is working on.

What's The Problem With Feminism? - Here's to hoping that the ones that care for the movement for more than using it as a bludgeon against people they don't like are listening.

Finally, our policy-makers are waking up to the plight of male domestic abuse victims - I'm glad to see that this is getting much needed exposure. Seriously a lot of effort goes into silencing male victims of abuse therefore it will take a lot of effort to raise them up and support them.

Can men stop being violent? Uncoupling masculinity from the massacres. - Its AllyF. Always worth a read.

Without telling media, Arizona judge orders dozens of articles to be deleted - coughcoughfemaleprivilegecoughcough

Male Victims/Survivors - Kudos to Purdue University for this.

Mothers 'an unseen force' in 'honour' abuse - This like saying, "Unsanitary Conditions: An 'unseen force' in Civil War casualties. By that I mean anyone that knows anything about history knows that the conditions of even military hospitals were atrocious and soldiers were almost as likely to die of infections that developed after an injury as they were the injury itself. The only people who didn't know mothers acted this way are people who simply refused to acknowledge it.

Like Men - Clarissa questioning why when women commit violence it spun as women "acting like men". Its like women are equal to men in all things except the capacity to do bad.

Sad Men in Texas Host All-Male Screening as a Joke, and We’re Laughing…But Not For the Reasons They Think - Oh look now who is the whinning piss baby.

A Feminist Reviews 'The Red Pill' - A feminist that actually watched the movie and wants to talk about it in some way other than trashing it? Yeah I was shocked too.

Trained to Kill: How Four Boy Soldiers Survived Boko Haram - This must be what people mean by saying war is hell.

Men Legally Allowed to Finish Sex Even If Woman Revokes Consent, NC Law States - This is wrong no matter how you slice it.

Eighteen words. Two meanings.

So I was just roaming around on my Facebook feed and saw an interesting post by a Jasmin Newman (whom I've already contacted and got her permission to mention her here).

Here is the post she made:

If you are not able to read it is says the following:
"Nobody ever asks a man how they get things done. Nobody asks a man how he finds balance." Shonda Rhimes, Feminist screenwriter."
"Nobody ever asks a man how they get things done. Nobody asks a man how he finds balance." Jasmin Newman, Non feminist writer.
We are equal. The difference is empathy.
The exact same 18 words but meaning two different things from two different people.

Shonda Rhimes says those words with the context that while women are burdened with being questioned about how they find balance to get things done as if they can not pull those things off men are allowed a free pass and are not questioned. Its meant to say that men are in a privileged position of being able to just do what we do without people wondering how we can get things done and achieve balance.

Jasmin Newman says those words with a context of men are just demanded and expected to do what needs to be done with no care as to how we do them, what it may cost, and with little to no regard for our well being. Its meant to say that men aren't show the attention and care that we should be shown to see if we are balancing things out and making sure our well-being is taken care of.

In short Rhimes assumes that since we are men we MUST be in a better position than women on this issue. Newman points that as men our position isn't as great as people like Rhimes would have you believe.

Frankly I don't want women to be in a position where they are just expected and demanded to work themselves to death in silence with no one caring how they feel and how they are doing.

And that's the difference that is often ignored. While women are asked in a condescending manner "How do you, a woman, do such things?" there is no doubt that there is also a great degree of genuine care and concern for their well-being in such questions and let me tell you that is more than what men get.

Usually men aren't shown that level of care and concern until our productivity is so negatively affected someone takes notice and THEN they care how we are doing.

That is the supposed "privilege" Rhimes is talking about here. She is so focused on the fact that men aren't asked those questions that she either fails to see (or refuses to see) why men aren't asked those questions. It would be the same as saying, "Nobody questions why women cry." and then ignoring all the context of why its seen as okay for women to cry.

Now I know Rhimes aims to empower women and question the ways in which women are treated and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. However if she aims to go about it by falsely portraying the situation men are in then that is a problem and one that needs to be corrected.

And by the way, thanks for asking Jasmin.

6 Backward Ideas Hollywood Still Has About Men - Yes I know its Cracked. Yes I know they care more about smearing men than actually talking pop culture. But also know that even a broken clock can be right sometimes.

Oxford Uni student who could be spared jail for stabbing boyfriend in 'one-off attack' has 'assaulted him TWICE before' - coughcoughBrockTurnercoughcough. Excuse me. Just choking on the observation that this got nowhere near the level attention it should have. Because at least Brock Turner actually served time.

Black Nuclear Chemist Who Isn’t a Feminist and Believes Health Care Is a Privilege Crowned Miss USA - Nothing says equality like the radical notion that women are people until they say something that gets feminists all pissy and hot under the collar.

Unspoken abuse: Mothers who rape their sons - This is just damn terrible. Unspoken abuse indeed.

Scarlett Johansson's divorce case shows why men are scared of being stay-at-home dads - Damn shame. If it had been the other way around it may have actually been noticed by more people.

007 Sir Roger Moore was 'victim of domestic violence' - It's odd to read this. Moore was a cultural icon that represented the epitome of cool, calm, collected, and in control. Such a stark contrast to being a victim of abuse. Also a shame that this didn't come to light until after he died.

The Bombing at a Manchester Ariana Grande Show Was an Attack on Girls and Women - Politicizing a horrible act of violence for the sake of making women and children out to be the ultimate victims of everything? Par for the course.

Ray Spencer Didn't Molest His Kids. So Why Did He Spend 20 Years in Prison for It? - Because people would rather presume the worst faith in men for simply being men while at the same time getting upset and offended when called out on generalizing men.

University students union blocks move to set up Men's Rights group - Once again. Men have to do their own work but when they start to do so they must be blocked. I just wish people would be bold enough to admit that they don't want men to wise up and help themselves for their own sake. It would make things so much easier.

The Hateriarchy - "If the rhetoric routinely thrown at men were directed at any of our ‘minority’ victim groups—women, black people, ethnic minorities, gays—British society would be condemned for its prejudice, bigotry and even persecution."

Star Wars Nerds, Mark Hamill Is One of You - I would pay money to hear him use his Joker voice in a Star Wars movie.

Feminism Is a Discussion, Not a Monolith - A good point and a noble goal. The problem is the "discussion" is often so tainted with starting presumptions, generalizations, and other nonsense that people are discouraged from participating. And that's assuming they are tossed from the discussion outright for daring to have the wrong opinion or being the wrong gender.
If they could drop the dogged belief that individuals like Le Marquand speak for all feminists, they might be surprised to find a conversation that is in some ways familiar.
If feminists could drop the dogged belief that saying #notallfeminists everytime a negative feminist comes along and expecting the rest of us to basically do their work for them by ignoring said negative feminists we would all be better off. Because its not like feminists extend that courtesy to other groups.

Okay I want you to read these two articles about the same subject and tell me if you notice something.

US husband splits from wife who raped him as boy - This is from BBC.

Husband files for separation from former teacher Mary Kay Letourneau - This is CNN.

Notice how each describes the crime in question. Yeah that's what we are dealing with these days. Oh and I can't help but notice the absolute silence from the "It's rape culture!!!!" crowd.
